Content Writer
At Smart, our mission is to transform retirement, savings and financial wellbeing, across all generations, around the world.
THE ROLE:
Are you a talented storyteller with a passion for making complex topics simple and engaging? We're looking for a Content Writer to join our marketing team and play a pivotal role in shaping our external narrative.
As our Content Writer, you'll be a key player in helping Smart become a recognised leader in the industry. You'll boost our online presence and connect with existing and potential customers by creating insightful, compelling long-form content – from in-depth guides to engaging articles and scripts – that truly speaks to our audience and supports our mission of transforming retirement. You'll also collaborate closely with our Head of External Affairs to shape our content strategy, ensuring every piece of content you craft makes a real impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Content Strategy:
Contributes to the overarching content strategy alongside the Head of External Affairs.
Translates complex pension topics and product information into simple, compelling, narratives for various audience groups.
Collaborates closely with subject matter experts across the organisation to gather insights, ensure accuracy, and develop content that is aligned with our brand and marketing strategy.
Ensures content reaches its full potential through amplification and multi-channel repurposing. This includes identifying potential channels and audience segments for distribution.
Supports thought leadership on topics like adequacy, pension engagement, retirement and financial wellbeing.
Develops and maintains one overarching content library for marketing including any 3rd party assets.
Content Development:
Creates accurate, engaging content on pension products, retirement planning, and regulatory topics.
Creates engaging, and informative long-form content for various external stakeholder audiences: white papers, video scripts, comprehensive blog posts, opinion pieces, articles, case studies.
Writes clear, engaging content that educates and empowers members (e.g., video scripts, blog posts and articles).
Owns end-to-end development of content, ensuring it consistently meets high standards.
Collaborates with compliance, legal and product teams to ensure content meets regulatory standards.
Works with the design team to ensure content is visually appealing, effectively presented, and optimised for digital distribution.
Self-drives collaboration with internal teams, managing timelines, and ensuring content delivery aligns with marketing and business schedules.
Supports the dissemination of content across owned, earned, and paid channels to maximise reach and engagement.
Performance & Brand Guardianship:
Monitors content performance metrics (e.g., organic traffic, engagement rates, leads) and identifies opportunities for optimisation and repurposing.
Ensures all content adheres to strict brand voice, tone, and style guidelines, acting as a guardian of the brand's long-form narrative.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The skills, experience, and aptitudes we are looking for are listed below but please don’t be discouraged from applying if you don’t meet every single one of these criteria – having a ‘can do’ attitude is sometimes more important than being able to tick every box:
Proven Experience: 3+ years as a content writer with a strong portfolio of published long-form content (e.g., white papers, in-depth articles, opinion pieces, speeches, comprehensive blog posts).
Industry knowledge: Experience writing about pensions, investments or financial services and strong understanding of key UK pension concepts.
Exceptional communication: Research, writing, and editing skills, with a keen ability to synthesise complex information into engaging narratives, without losing accuracy.
SEO savvy: Solid understanding of SEO principles, keyword research, and content marketing best practices to drive organic visibility.
Collaborative and independent: Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams (including subject matter experts) and comfortable working in a regulated environment.
Organised & deadline-driven: Strong organisational skills to effectively manage the content library and ability to manage multiple content projects simultaneously while consistently meeting deadlines.
Customer knowledge: Understands customer behaviour, needs and understanding.
Tech-adept: Experience with content management systems (CMS) is a plus.
